Today’s song is one you will have to listen to on YouTube below as it is not yet available here in the US. I love Hudson Taylor, an Irish folk pop duo with brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor.

I have posted a song from Hudson Taylor in the past, but wanted to share this new song (and brand new video!) by them today. They will be releasing their debut album, Singing For Strangers, across the world (except the US and Canada) on March 30. I will be keeping my eye out for the US release date and will let you know as soon as I know. In the meantime, this is a great music video and I think you will love the song.

I have linked to their LP, Chasing Rubies, above. The LP was released in late 2013 and if you have not yet listened to their music, please check them out … they truly are awesome! You can also preview their new album by clicking HERE.

SONG OF THE DAY – “PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU LOVE ME” by Gabrielle Aplin

May 7, 2014

The last few days I have been able to get outside for a run in close to 60 degree weather. What a joy! I love the sunshine, being in my running shorts, and having to stop halfway thru the run to remove my long sleeve top and tie it around my waist. That is just pure pleasure. 🙂

Another pleasure is listening to today’s artist. I am posting a song by a young artist (21 years old!) from the UK that I have been a fan of for several years. I have followed Gabrielle Aplin‘s music since 2011 and have often had to purchase it from the UK iTunes site since the songs were not available here in the US. I am, therefore, very excited to announce that her album, English Rain, (which was released in the UK this month last year) was finally released here in the US yesterday (May 6, 2014). In addition to the album release yesterday, she also performed live in concert in NYC last night. I am excited to see her extend her reach into the States and I thought it was a perfect day to post another song by her. I posted my favorite song by her – “Home” – on this page back in December.

I find Gabrielle Aplin‘s music just very honest and easy to listen to. I really like this song and I love the video I have attached where you can watch her perform in her element, standing by herself playing the guitar (or the piano) and singing. She received her first guitar from her parents at age 11 and says that she was influenced musically by listening to her parents’ Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen albums. She is an incredibly talented young lady! Her full EP is definitely worth checking out and I am certain we will hear more from this rising young star.

As you know, another favorite musical group of mine from that side of the pond (Ireland) is Hudson Taylor. The brothers, Alfie and Harry, and Gabrielle are great mates who have known each other for over four years when they all moved to London. In fact, I have discovered that Alfie and Gabrielle are dating… so cute! It is fun to watch these young artists develop friendships with each other and support each other in their respective journeys. Let me know what you think about today’s song – I would love to hear from you.

SONG OF THE DAY – “STORY OF MY LIFE” by One Direction

December 19, 2013

Today’s song was an easy selection. It goes along with a story.

First, this is a fantastic song, but particularly moving when you listen to it while watching the video. You must watch the video! Yes, OneDirection is a “boy band” but they are truly incredibly talented singers and watching them perform a song like this just solidifies that. Obviously, unless you live under a rock, you know One Direction. It almost makes me laugh out loud when I see that this video has over 85 million views!

But, about living under that rock …

Last night when everyone was home, we were sitting around talking and my husband says to us, “Oh, I meant to tell you … (I’m thinking this is just a minor story) I flew with One Direction to London last Sunday.” What?!

He was on a 747 airplane from New York to London last Sunday and was in the business class section on the upper level, which is like sitting in a small room. In that section was the entire One Direction team … and my husband. Don’t know how he ended up there with them, but he told us he was the only one up there without a One Direction backpack. haha

Interestingly, my daughter and I had just listened to this song because she wanted me to watch the video – which made me cry btw. We talked about who our favorite band member was and we both agreed that it was Harry. So, the story gets even better … or worse depending upon how you look at it. My husband then proceeds to tell us that he sat right next to – who else?  – Harry! My daughter’s mouth dropped right open and she said “YOU DID NOT!”

We asked him if he took pictures. The answer – no. We asked him why he was just getting around to telling us about it more than a week later?! His answer – I didn’t think you guys liked them. My daughter’s response, “DAD, I’M A TEENAGE GIRL!” He has yet to live this down because we really believe he just didn’t know how big they truly are and how huge it would have been for him to get a selfie with Harry and the rest of the band to send to his daughter and all her friends.

In his defense, he said that he just really enjoyed watching them and did not even think about taking a photo. He said they were hilarious. They all were very talkative and having a good time. He said that they just seemed so down to earth, fun, and respectful. I think maybe he was expecting them to be cocky, conceited or disrespectful which, according to him, they definitely are NOT. He said they were all dressed in their sweat pants and converse for the long flight. And, back to Harry, my husband said he is just a goofball. He thought he was a character and definitely carefree. He said, “You should have seen his hair! He had it in a rubber band with a pony tail on top of his head!”

Needless to say, my husband sat next to some of the most famous young men in the world right now and didn’t realize it. But, he is now a fan … maybe not of their music, but certainly of the young men themselves. And, as for waiting a week to tell his family and no photos, he may never live that down.

This is a really great song. Enjoy.

SONG OF THE DAY – “Drop in the Ocean” by Hudson Taylor

Today I want to introduce you to one of my favorite new bands – Hudson Taylor. I have been following them since the spring of 2012 and I just love their sound. I remember telling my daughter, “These guys are going to be HUGE!”

This is one of their new songs and it is fantastic. Unfortunately, it is not available on iTunes yet, but I have given you the link to their album, “Chasing Rubies,” which is awesome! I would love to give you just one recommendation off that album, but honestly, I am obsessed with every one of the songs. Give it a listen … I think you will hear what I am talking about and you will definitely find at least one song that you MUST have!

They have a new album out – Osea – but it is not yet available in the US (it is available on the UK iTunes site if you have an account there).

I have a little secret for you … if you LIKE them on their Facebook page today, you can get a free download of this song, “Drop in the Ocean.”

Hudson Taylor is composed of two brothers – Alfie and Harry – from Dublin, Ireland. The band name, Hudson Taylor, is actually their surname. They harmonize like no duo I have ever heard before. In addition, they are adorable. Alfie, the lead singer, has a real James Dean look while I think Harry looks an awful lot like Ashton Kutcher.  The chemistry between the two brothers is amazing and they just look like they are having so much fun making music together. They have a unique musical sound which is addictive. They are truly an amazing talent!

This is a band that I have been dying to see live in concert! They did make a brief sweep through the US last year, but I was not able to get to a show. They are currently touring – doing their own headline tour throughout the UK and Ireland, and touring with Kodaline on their November UK tour. I am hoping that they follow Kodaline here to the US on their tour that is coming early next year. A girl can dream … 🙂
