* NEW SONG ALERT!*

This song was just released today by Mat Kearney, who is probably one of my very favorite artists. I absolutely love his music and his incredible, emotion-filled voice! This is a great new song and I thought I would share it quickly so you can check it out on the day of it’s release.

I have seen Mat Kearney live an amazing five times, and had the opportunity to meet him about five years ago in Dallas, Texas. He is such a great talent and just a fabulous guy … and I love his signature hats. 😉

I have been following him and his music since 2005 and always get excited when he releases something new. He has been known to combine all types of music, including rap, hip-hop, folk, rock, pop, and now a little electronic mix. I really like it and hope that you enjoy this new song. If you have not yet had the opportunity to see him perform live, I highly recommend it.

“The Rest of Our Life” by Tim McGraw & Faith Hill

This is a beautiful new song by two of Country Music’s biggest stars, and it is from the couple’s first-ever duets album. The album is set to be released on November 17.

The song was co-written by Ed Sheeran and, for those of you who are fans of his like I am, it definitely has his mark. Many of the lyrics and the melody seem like they came right out of one of his own songs. I love seeing artists work together across genres … what a compliment to all involved.

I adore the honesty of this song, and the video. Love is not always easy and life certainly is not a fairytale, but it is definitely worth it. My husband just said to me this past weekend, “I can’t imagine going through life without having you to share it with.” Sharing the rest of our life together is indeed a gift. ❤

“I don’t really care about those storm clouds brewing,

For as long as you’re here by my side,

Oh we’ll be young, oh we’ll be young, oh we’ll be young when we’re old.

I’ll be fine if my gray hair shows.

I’ll be fine if my waistline grows.

I’ll be fine even when time takes it’s toll.

I’ll stay young for the rest of my life with you.

We’ll stay young for the rest of our life.”

I hope you enjoy this new song.

Song of the Day – “Good To be Alive Today” by Michael Franti & Spearhead

November 1, 2017

My heart is heavy today. Two acts of violence struck much too close to home yesterday.

Yesterday morning I was awakened early by a text from my husband saying, “Is Colt okay?” I was not sure what he was talking about, but my heart sunk as I saw that I had missed a text from Colton that he had sent me at midnight my time, after I had already gone to sleep. I quickly clicked it open and it said,

“Hey, I’m safe btw. There is a shooting at campus …”

Luckily my son was off campus at the home of some friends when the shooting took place and they ended up spending the night there. As details came in, we learned that the shooting had been in the area of his dorm building, so I cannot even begin to tell you how grateful I am that he had not been there. It was such a tragedy and a young student lost his life that night. It was a shock to the system so early in the morning.

My day started out on that note, but it certainly got better. It seems as though life carries on even when bad things happen. Then, at 4:15 I got a text from a friend in Dallas. It read,

“You aren’t in lower Manhattan on a bike today, are you?”

My initial gut reaction was a happy, “Are you in town?!” Unfortunately, it was not a happy question, but a concerned check-in. She was not in town, but was making sure that I was not on a bike path where, not that long ago, we had taken her and her husband out on a bike ride.

I jumped up and looked out my window and saw multiple helicopters in the air over the West Side Highway in Lower Manhattan, blocks from my home. I had been home for only a short time before her text and I was not even aware of the evil that had just taken place down the road from me … in my city … on a trail I walk, run, and bike on regularly.

I was shocked, sad, confused, distressed, and angry all at once. It is amazing how you can have so many strong emotions all at the same time. I feel so much sorrow for the lives that were taken, and those that were changed yesterday. Still just so hard to comprehend.

I don’t understand how someone can think so little of another human life. Where is the love? I feel so tired of hatred and violence.

I thought this song by Michael Franti was the perfect message today. I don’t think there is another artist who exemplifies peace and love quite like he does. I was able to see him live for the first time in January and know that it will be the first of many. I hope the lyrics of this song resonate with you like they do with me.

“What if this song was number one? Would it mean that love had won? Would it mean that the world was saved and no guns were being drawn today? …

What if everyone could say that it’s good to be alive today?

I will continue to count my blessings every day and continue to give my love to the world. It is good to be alive today. ❤

Song of the Day – “XO” by John Mayer

October 29, 2017

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

Just a few minutes to write tonight, so I will keep it short. Today I am posting one of my favorite covers. This song was originally recorded by Beyonce and her version and John Mayer’s version could not be more different. He originally performed his cover of it during a concert in 2014 and subsequently released a single studio version. I love this stripped down version of the song and hope that you do too. Enjoy the last few hours of your weekend!

Song of the Day – “Loves You Like Me” by Josh Kelley

October 20, 2017

*This song is not available for purchase yet, but check out his recent album, New Lane Road*

Today I am posting a song by Utah-based musician, Josh Kelley. Interestingly, when I bring his name up to many of my Utah friends, they are not familiar with him. Well, it is time to familiarize yourself. 🙂

Josh Kelley is an incredibly talented artist and this is an amazing song! The lyrics are so heartfelt and mesmerizing. What wife would not want their husband to write this song for them?

This is a new song that was just posted to YouTube on Monday of this week. I saw Josh perform live in January of this year at the ascap Music Cafe during the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah. I would swear that he sang this song during that performance. I vividly remember him talking about the fact that he had just written a song for his wife and he wanted to play it for her. His wife, Katherine Heigl, was there with their brand new baby who literally had been born just a month earlier. I remember walking out of that performance and saying to myself, “I cannot wait until he releases that song … it is beautiful!” So, I cannot guarantee that this was the song, but it sure does ring that memory bell for me.

I am hoping that Josh will be performing during the Sundance Film Festival again this year, but in the meantime … I just discovered that he is touring and will be in NYC at a small, intimate venue in December. Sounds like a great night out!

Song of the Day – “What Side of Love” by Parachute

Today’s song is from a band that I discovered back in 2009 while living in London. I cannot remember how exactly I was introduced to them there, but I was instantly a fan.

I saw Parachute perform in NYC in March 2015 when they were touring with Mat Kearney (my favorite!) and they put on a great, full band performance, but as much as I liked that …

March 2015 at Best Buy Theatre in NYC

I just recently saw them in an intimate, acoustic show at City Winery in NYC last month and it was absolutely amazing! What an incredible venue to hear their music. They obviously sang all the favorites and nearly everyone in attendance sang right along with them.

Today’s song of the day was probably my very favorite of the performance that night. The song is from their most recent album, Wide Awake, which was released in 2016. Will told the story of what he wrote the song about, but he also said that he felt like it was especially fitting for this time in the world. The lyrics really resonated with me … It is just a great song!

Parachute was originally formed in 2006 in Charlottesville, Virginia and they started touring in 2008 after college graduation. The band consists of childhood friends: Will Anderson (vocals, guitar, frontman), Johnny Stubblefield (drums), and Kit French (keyboard, saxophone).

Their debut album, Losing Sleep was released in 2009 and the I still love the song “The Mess I Made” from that album. Their 2011 album, The Way It Was has some of their most popular songs on it with the song “Kiss Me Slowly” leading my list of favorites off that album.

I hope you enjoy this song. Let me know what you think.

Song of the Day – “Arms Open” by The Script

October 1, 2017

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

I have had many gentle (or maybe not so gentle 😉 ) pushes to get me to start posting on this blog again. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me to return. I stepped away from this blog during a health issue, when I just could not focus on posting. The longer I was away, the harder it became to start writing again. I have missed it and so here I go again …

Today’s song is from one of my favorite bands – The Script. I have posted from them in the past. The Script just released their fifth album Freedom Child this month and it was worth the wait. Although The Script has always tackled emotional topics and social issues (addiction, financial issues, etc) in their music, this album definitely feels more politically driven than their earlier music, and I find it to be filled with some pretty deep emotions. (Also, their first single “Rain” is probably their catchiest tune yet!)

I was lucky enough to go with my husband and daughter (who is visiting) to their concert in NYC on Friday night at Radio City Music Hall. Let me just say … AMAZING! They are just incredible live. This is my fourth time seeing them live and we just keep going back. It is the one band that I know my husband will go see without me begging. 🙂

Today’s song is one that just really hit me hard. What a beautiful and timely song! As I have watched so many challenging things happening across the US and around the world over the past year, my heart aches. This song just expresses the way that I feel right now and I have been listening to it on repeat for days. My arms are open.

Song of the Day – “World Without You” by Hudson Taylor

Today’s song is one you will have to listen to on YouTube below as it is not yet available here in the US. I love Hudson Taylor, an Irish folk pop duo with brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor.

I have posted a song from Hudson Taylor in the past, but wanted to share this new song (and brand new video!) by them today. They will be releasing their debut album, Singing For Strangers, across the world (except the US and Canada) on March 30. I will be keeping my eye out for the US release date and will let you know as soon as I know. In the meantime, this is a great music video and I think you will love the song.

I have linked to their LP, Chasing Rubies, above. The LP was released in late 2013 and if you have not yet listened to their music, please check them out … they truly are awesome! You can also preview their new album by clicking HERE.

Song of the Day – “Nothing Without Love” by Nate Ruess

March 4, 2015

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

Okay, you are probably thinking, “I thought she said she was back … and then she disappeared again.”

Sorry to have been so absent over the last few weeks. Sometimes life gets in the way. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at the beginning of January and had surgery on February 23. I know, a little heavy for a music blog :), but I think knowing that will explain the song choice for today.

I love this new song by Nate Ruess (from the band fun.). fun. is one of my favorite bands and I have always loved Nate’s voice. He has been working on a solo project and this is the first single from that endeavor.

The title of the song just rings so true for me right now. I have been overwhelmed by the love and support I have received from so many – family, friends, work associates, and even acquaintances. It is amazing how much love there is in this world if we open our hearts to receive it. I have truly realized that I am nothing without love – it is the foundation of my life. I received a note from a friend that said:

“And now these three remain:

faith, hope & love.

But the greatest of these is love.”

You are loved by many of us.

Wishing you faith, hope & love.

Enjoy this new song. I am looking forward to hearing the rest of the result of Nate’s solo album.
