The song was co-written by Ed Sheeran and, for those of you who are fans of his like I am, it definitely has his mark. Many of the lyrics and the melody seem like they came right out of one of his own songs. I love seeing artists work together across genres … what a compliment to all involved.
I adore the honesty of this song, and the video. Love is not always easy and life certainly is not a fairytale, but it is definitely worth it. My husband just said to me this past weekend, “I can’t imagine going through life without having you to share it with.” Sharing the rest of our life together is indeed a gift. ❤
“I don’t really care about those storm clouds brewing,
For as long as you’re here by my side,
Oh we’ll be young, oh we’ll be young, oh we’ll be young when we’re old.
Well, I have survived my first few days of being an empty nester … an empty nester much too early! 🙂
Last week I dropped my son off at his new high school – a golf academy in South Carolina. I never thought that I would ever send one of my children away from home to a boarding school for high school, but here I am. It was a very quick decision and my emotions have been all over the place the last several weeks. I am sure if you look at the last few songs I have posted, you will be able to tell where my head has been. I really, really like my kids and I love to be with them, so how did I let one leave home at 16 for college and one leave at 15 for boarding school? What am I thinking?
I got home Thursday night and I woke up Friday and told myself that I had the day to be sad. So I listened to all the songs that would let me wallow in my sadness. Just to give you a quick idea of the emotional pit I was digging, the songs included: “Never Grow Up” by Taylor Swift, “Poems, Prayers and Promises” by John Denver, and “When I’m With You” by Ben Rector. That last one by Ben Rector has been on repeat for the last four days! If you don’t think music can impact your emotions, I challenge you to listen to those songs. A friend of mine told me on Friday, “…I think you are going to have to give yourself more than one day to be sad!” Obviously she is right, but I am certainly trying not to be actively sad.
I am happy to report that my son is very happy and the school seems to be a great fit for him. That makes me happy! I am very proud of him and the decision that he has made. I just know that I really miss him and the house sure seems empty without him here. I thought I would have him home with me for two more years, and just like that he is gone.
I love this song by Saint Raymond and I have been waiting for a day to post it. Saint Raymond is the stage name for Callum Burrows, a very young (only 19!) and talented, British singer-songwriter. Burrows is from Nottingham in the UK. He released his debut EP, Escapade, in early 2013 on Gabrielle Aplin’s (another of my favorite young British artists) Never Fade Records label; two more EPs followed in early 2014. I think we will be hearing much more from Saint Raymond – he has a fabulous sound with great harmonies, cool beats, and interesting lyrics. He is another new artist that has a sound reminiscent of the 80s. Even more exciting, he will be supporting one of my very favorites, Ed Sheeran, on his UK, Ireland, and European arena tour this fall. If there is something that will rocket Saint Raymond onto every playlist, that would be it! I know that you will like his sound.
I have to tell you that the video is the reason that I am posting this song today. It kind of feels like my life right now. Once you watch it, I am sure you will understand. Sometimes I don’t know if I am making the right decision, but when it comes down to it … I have to make a decision and jump. My kids have lived a life full of adventure, change, and challenge and they have risen to all of it. They have a very strong sense of self and embrace life to the fullest. So, how do you say “no” when they are ready for something that maybe I wasn’t ready for … the answer for me was ‘You Don’t.’ My heart is heavy right now, but what a ride as they chase their dreams and I dive in after them as we all enter the next new adventure.
As you all know by now, I am a huge Ed Sheeran fan! I have been waiting for this single to be released so that I could post it here for you. The single was released earlier today and it is even available on iTunes already … so, you can get the song NOW. I wanted to let you know about it right away so that you could be as excited as I am. 😉
I can hardly wait for his new album. I love that he is constantly experiencing with new sounds and new music styles. He is just an incredible artist and probably my favorite performer to see live in concert.
If you follow my blog, you know that we lived in London when Ed Sheeran was just getting his start. He actually came to my daughter’s high school and performed back in 2010. We have been fans ever since and have loved watching him become a huge success. It is incredibly fun to watch someone rise all the way from a young guy just getting started to a mega star. Enjoy this new song and keep your ears open as it starts hitting the radio waves this week.
I love this new song from Christina Perri’s new album, Head or Heart, that was just released today. I love it even more because she recorded the song with one of my all time favorites … Ed Sheeran! Typically her songs are very dramatic and emotional and this song is just fun and catchy. I really like the change of pace – she does this style well too.
Christina Perri literally catapulted from obscurity to success with her song, “Jar of Hearts” after a choreographer featured the song on a 2010 episode of So You Think You Can Dance. The song created a huge buzz and had more than 100,000 downloads in the first two weeks after it aired. The song went on to be an international hit, she signed a record deal, and now she is releasing her sophomore album. A pretty cool success story. She is an amazing singer-songwriter with a very distinctive sound.
I was excited to see that she and Ed Sheeran worked together. He seems to be one of the most generous artists out there and often teams up with other artists on their songs. I have talked about Ed Sheeran many times on this blog already, so I won’t say much other than that I am a huge fan and am anxiously awaiting his new album. If you would like to see the other songs I have posted by him, click here.
In keeping with the GRAMMY award nominee theme, I wanted to post a song by one of my all time favorite artists and nominee for Best New Artist. I absolutely adore Ed Sheeran! I posted a song by him on this site back in November where I talked a lot about him, so click on the link to get caught up. He has been a favorite since we lived in London in 2010 and we were so excited to see his career skyrocket.
Ed Sheeran is one of the coolest guys in the business. His live shows are remarkable and his ability to create music as a one man performer is astounding. I know that he is working on his next album and I would highly recommend keeping your eyes out for a live show … it would totally be worth your time, effort, and money to see him live; but, be warned, his tickets are incredibly difficult to come by these days.
I think it is somewhat strange that he is nominated for Best New Artist this year as his song “The A Team” earned him a a 55th GRAMMY nomination for Song Of The Year last year. Also in 2012, he won British Breakthrough Act and British Male Solo Artist at the 2012 Brit Awards. It seems that the GRAMMY voters are a little late to the party, but it certainly does not mean that he is not well deserving of the Best New Artist award … I just think he should have been nominated last year. There are a lot of great nominees in this category, but my vote goes to Ed.
I just could not pass up the opportunity to share another song by Ed Sheeran. I would love to recommend a song or two of his that I love, but honestly I love all of his music. This video just seemed like the perfect pick today as there has been a lot of hype across the web this week about him rescuing and adopting a cat; he even created a Twitter account for “Graham.” Seems to make this video even funnier after this news.
Good luck, Ed! I am rooting for you to win tomorrow night.
I took a couple of days off and can’t believe it is now January 3, 2014! I was writing a check yesterday and I dated it 2012. What?! I guess I decided to go back a year rather than forward. But, now it is time to start thinking about 2014 and I am ready to “skip to the good bit.”
I am feeling really good about 2014 and I am excited about the way I am starting. I just finished packing for a big trip with my daughter to Guatemala to work with Habitat For Humanity. I had to get 4 shots and am loaded with all sorts of medication and mosquito repellant to keep us healthy. When my daughter went to her doctor at the health center at her college, the nurse there told her “this is the best winter session experience I have heard of yet …. a service trip with your mom.” I am feeling like this is an incredible opportunity for the two of us and one that will really start my year out on the right foot – with perspective and a thankful heart.
Okay, enough for the serious talk … now for today’s song. Rizzle Kicks is a music duo from Brighton, England made up of two childhood friends. I saw them live when they accompanied Ed Sheeran in concert two years ago. They are cute, energetic, fun-loving performers and their laid back raps are entertaining and certainly easy to listen to (think non-confrontational). “Skip To the Good Bit” is a catchy, upbeat song and makes me want to get up and move. Two other songs that I really enjoy are “Mama Do The Hump” and “When I Was A Youngster.”
Gotta run … still plenty to do before 4:00 a.m. tomorrow morning when we leave.
Two buttons today? Unfortunately this song is not yet available on iTunes, so I have given you links to both of their individual albums. I will let you know the minute “Hearts on Fire” is released!
This is pretty typical of me with music. I find songs that I love and then I have to wait for them to be released. It’s torture! 😉
I have iTunes accounts in both the US and the UK so that I can purchase music off both sites. Often I can only find a song on the UK iTunes site because it has not been (and may never be) released here. That is also true with Spotify. Anyway, I love both of these artists and I am anxiously waiting for this song to be released. I will let you know the minute I find out!
A short little story to share about Ed Sheeran. We have been listening to Ed for many years. In fact, the first time I posted a Song of the Day by Ed Sheeran was in 2011. I was so excited about his music and then I learned that he had come to my kids’ school in London to perform at a high school assembly during the 2009-10 school year. How cool is that?! He even “friended” many of the kids after that performance. My daughter laughs that she was once “Facebook Friends” with Ed Sheeran rather than just a “Fan.” He is one of the most amazing live performers I have ever seen. It is just him up on that stage alone and it is awesome! He is wildly popular now and his concert tickets are difficult to get your hands on, but if you ever have the chance … go see him. I think it will be the first time you will ever get “shooshed” by a performer. I am a huge fan!
