A few weeks ago, I was able to see Tyrone Wells in concert at City Winery in NYC and, at the same time, was introduced to a new artist. Opening for Tyrone Wells that night was a young, impressive performer named Nick Howard.

Nick Howard is a singer-songwriter from England who currently lives in NYC. He was actually the winner of the German television show called The Voice of Germany in 2012 and is very popular in that area of the world. Nick has an incredibly engaging personality and was a pleasure to watch live on stage with just his guitar. He was charming, playful, self-deprecating, and very talented. I am posting my favorite song from his performance that night. I love this song with the catchy tune and playful sound. I think it will be a hit! The single was released in November 2013 and he has a new album, called Living in Stereo, coming out later this month. I am looking forward to checking out the new album.

A new song by a new discovery for me on this #MusicMonday. Have a great week!

SONG OF THE DAY – “HERE’S TO US” by Kevin Rudolf

I love this song! I just can’t seem to get it out of my head. When I first heard the song, the chords and the sound at the beginning  immediately reminded me of another favorite song that I highlighted in November –  “Come To Me” by The Goo Goo Dolls.

I love the music of this song, but I especially love the lyrics – the combo seems to make it ear candy for me. Over the last month or so I have been really focused on the story … my story, other people’s stories, and when those stories intersect. My life has crossed so many other people’s paths and I count that as a tremendous blessing. Sometimes it is definitely sad when that path intersects and then continues on and it involves goodbyes. One of my favorite lines in the song …

“Here’s to all we loved that wasn’t meant to last.”

I think that has been a theme in our life. This was just recently emphasized with our visit back to Dallas last weekend. Dallas was such an important time in my kids’ lives. It is where my daughter spent the last two years of her high school life, made important friendships, and graduated from high school; and it is where my son started high school and developed a friendship with two friends that really comes along once in a lifetime. I tend to refer to them as “Brothers From Different Mothers.” I have learned that life has a way of creating a beautiful story even when it is difficult and that “things always turn out right,” as the song says.

I have to say that this is the first song I have heard from Kevin Rudolf. I learned of the song from a past yoga teacher, from several cities ago, who I adore and who has amazing musical taste. Kevin Rudolf is a singer-songwriter who was born in New York City and learned to play the guitar when he was only 11 years old. His mother was a rock musician and instilled in him the passion to pursue music. He has written or co-written every song on his albums (as well as writing for many others) and he seems to cross multiple genres with his music. He has worked with some of the biggest names in the music industry. Enjoy the song, enjoy the story and HERE’S TO US!

SONG OF THE DAY – “HAPPY” by Uncle Kracker

Today I am posting what I wrote yesterday. I did not have wifi long enough to get this posted, so this note is just a day late. I am still in Dallas and enjoying visiting old favorites. It has been a busy day full of friends for all of us. So, here is yesterday … 😉

Just a short note as I am moving on fumes today! I was in NYC last night at a private show with Ryan Star and got home about 1:00 a.m., just to turn around and head to the airport at 4:30 a.m.! Not a lot of sleep to get me through the day.

The kids and I flew back to Dallas this morning for a short visit. This song seemed appropriate for the day because I have two very happy kids, as well as some happy friends who are looking forward to spending time with them. I sometimes forget what it is like to return to a “home.” It is so familiar! Things are so easy! It actually feels comforting. I am looking forward to reconnecting with friends and just spending a few days enjoying the familiarity of an old home.

I began listening to Uncle Kracker years ago and really began to enjoy his music while living in Detroit in the early 2000s. This song is off his 2012 album, “Midnight Special” and just felt like the perfect song for the day.

SONG OF THE DAY – “LOVE IS ALL AROUND” by Wet Wet Wet

It’s Throwback Thursday! Today’s TBT song was originally posted as my daughter’s Song of the Day on January 10, 2010!

It is the Christmas season and this song is one that I must listen to a hundred times during the holidays. One of my all time favorite movies is Love Actually and there is a parody of this song in that movie. We have already watched the movie once this season and I am sure it will get pulled out again before the holidays are over. I think I have the entire thing memorized. 🙂 The film has such a fantastic cast, and it just makes me love and miss London every time I watch it.

No matter how many times I watch the movie, I always get teared up during the opening scene. I have attached the video of that opening scene for you to enjoy as well. I also attached the hilarious movie scene of Billy Mack’s (Bill Nighy) version of “Christmas Is All Around.”
