Following the song title’s advice today. ūüôā

So, in honor of settling down, I am off to the city for a concert tonight. It is going to be fabulous – an artist that I really like giving a private show at Webster Hall in NYC. This will be a new venue for me and one that I have really been wanting to visit. I love these small, intimate, invitation-only concerts where you really get up and close to the artist.I can’t wait to let you know about it tomorrow.

Today’s song is by The 1975, a four-piece, alt-rock band from Manchester in the UK. The group met at school in 2002 and released their first EP in 2012; three more EPs followed. They recently released their debut, self-titled album, The 1975, in September 2013.

The band consists of Matt Healy (lead vocals and guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), Ross McDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums). They have a really cool sound and are certainly making a big splash. In April of this year they had their first big performance in the US, playing at Coachella Music Festival. I am sure there is much more to come from them and if you have not already explored their music, take time to do it now. They are really good!

Gotta run … I have a train to catch!

SONG OF THE DAY – “WILD HEART” by The Vamps

A fun song to start your week off today.

The Vamps are a young group out of the UK, and when I say young … I really mean YOUNG. The band consists of four young guys,¬†the oldest¬†of whom just turned 20, the youngest just recently turned 18.

The Vamps are truly a band out of the modern age as they did not form in the traditional way. Actually, when James McVey (lead guitar and vocals) wanted to form a band, he turned to YouTube in search of other talent. He met Brad Simpson (lead vocals and guitar) via YouTube in 2011 and the two began writing songs together. In 2012, they connected with Connor Ball (bass guitar and vocals) and Tristan Evans (drums and vocals) and the band was officially formed. They started uploading music covers on their YouTube channel and they were an instant hit, ending 2012 with a record deal. They released their debut album, called Meet The Vamps, in the UK in April of this year. They are very talented young men and co-write and perform all their own songs. This song just makes me happy and brings a little much-needed energy into a Monday.

SONG OF THE DAY – “PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU LOVE ME” by Gabrielle Aplin

The last few days I have been able to get outside for a run in close to 60 degree weather. What a joy! I love the sunshine, being in my running shorts, and having to stop halfway thru the run to remove my long sleeve top and tie it around my waist. That is¬†just pure pleasure. ūüôā

Another pleasure is listening to today’s artist. I am posting a song by a young artist (21 years old!) from the UK that I have been a fan of for several years. I have followed Gabrielle Aplin‘s music since 2011 and have often had to purchase it from the UK iTunes site since the songs were not available here in the US. I am, therefore, very excited to announce that her album, English Rain, (which was released in the UK this month last year) was finally released here in the US yesterday (May 6, 2014). In addition to the album release yesterday, she also performed live in concert in NYC last night. I am excited to see her extend her reach into the States and I thought it was a perfect day to post another song by her. I posted my favorite song by her – “Home” – on this page back in December.

I find Gabrielle Aplin‘s music just very honest and easy to listen to. I really like this song and I love the video I have attached where you can watch her perform in her element, standing by herself playing the guitar (or the piano) and singing. She received her first guitar from her parents at age 11 and says that she was influenced musically by listening to her parents’ Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen albums.¬†She is an incredibly talented young lady! Her full EP is definitely worth checking out and I am certain we will¬†hear more from this rising young star.

As you know, another favorite musical group of mine from that side of the pond (Ireland) is Hudson Taylor. The brothers, Alfie and Harry, and Gabrielle are great mates who have known each other for over four years when they all moved to London. In fact, I have discovered that Alfie and Gabrielle are dating… so cute! It is fun to watch these young artists develop friendships with each other and support each other in their respective journeys. Let me know what you think about today’s song – I would love to hear from you.

Happy New Year!

It is 10:00 p.m. where I am sitting, so just a couple more hours left of 2013. I can’t believe how quickly the year passed. So many exciting things happened this year! It will be a year full of many memories for me, but I am looking forward to creating new ones in 2014.

It was difficult to pick just one song today from so many favorites, but this song was probably the most memorable song of the year. I am certain it is not new to most of you, but can you seriously think of 2013 without thinking of Thrift Shop? Macklemore & Ryan Lewis were a phenomenon in 2013!

For the last few days I have been posting songs by some of my favorite new musical finds of 2013. To finish that up – on this last night of the year – I wanted to post a list of my favorite “new to me” bands and artists of 2013. ¬†Drum roll, please …. ¬†Here is my list:

I enjoyed so much good music over the year from a multitude of artists, but I discovered all of these artists in 2013 and they instantly became favorites and people that I will be keeping my eye on. I hope that you were able to discover and enjoy great music this year as well, and I am looking forward to sharing the musical journey with you in 2014.

And as I mentioned a couple days ago, my favorite album of the year was “Native” by OneRepublic.

¬†Music brings me joy and I am looking forward to a joyful year full of love, friendship, adventure, and … of course … MUSIC!
