Yes, yes … I know it has been a very long time since I have added something new to this blog. Let’s just pretend I have not been gone for so long and let’s enjoy a new song together. 🙂

I have a song that I just love and have not been able to get out of my head.  Yesterday, I saw the artist live and so I decided it was the perfect time to share. This is such an incredible song and so timely. I dare you to listen to it and not feel the need to be more kind.

“In a world that has decided that it’s going to lose it’s mind … be more kind my friends. Try to be more kind.”

Frank Turner is a very passionate English singer-songwriter who just released his seventh studio album, by the same name as the song (Be More Kind), in May 2018. His music style could be described as folk-punk and this song, although definitely gentle and folksy, is certainly no different in it’s emotional personal – and political – message. I absolutely love his acoustic style of music.

I was lucky enough to get to see Frank Turner live yesterday afternoon in a very intimate setting. I went out on a sold out Rocks Off concert cruise in NYC and he performed for well over an hour while we traveled along the East River and the Hudson River. It was an incredibly beautiful afternoon and being on the water and listening to his music was a double treat. Turner played solo and the raw emotion of hearing him sing his songs was fantastic.

I would totally recommend seeing him if you get a chance. I have wanted to see him live for many years, but have  never been able to make it work, so I was thrilled when this opportunity popped up yesterday morning. I love being spontaneous. 🙂

I hope that you enjoy this great new song. I posted another song by him on February 16, 2014 called The Way I Tend To Be.” Check it out as well, it is one of my favorites.

February 16, 2014

I am posting a song today by another artist from England. Frank Turner is a singer-songwriter who attended Eton College. He got his start in punk rock, but when his band broke up in 2005, he started a solo career that was based on his love of acoustic and folk music. He is backed by his band called “The Sleeping Souls.”

According to an article in The Telegraph on February 13, 2014, he was described as a great live performer who has a sense of community among his fans. The article says:

“Turner is British music’s secret star. He’s a bearded, posh, 32-year-old former hardcore punk who has stealthily built up an incredibly loyal audience who respond to his directness, inclusiveness, sweaty commitment to performance and simple, uplifting songs. He’s not quite a British Bruce Springsteen, although there is something of the Boss’s charismatic commitment to the audience and the communal rituals of performance.”

I really like this song and hope you enjoy it. I think it is great song writing and I love the music and the lyrics.

SONG OF THE DAY – “HARLEM” by New Politics

February 10, 2014

Today I just really want to post a fun song that makes me feel like moving. It is a great song for working out, dancing, or just bouncing your head while sitting down at work. I really love the sound and find it such fun. The song is not new and many of you may already be familiar with it, but it is a great song to add to your playlist if you have not already done so.

New Politics is an Indie-rock group originally from Copenhagen, Denmark who now make Brooklyn, New York home. They have released two albums and today’s song is from their sophomore album, A Bad Girl in Harlem, which was released in May 2013. The band seems to constantly be on tour and has a reputation for having an incredibly energetic stage performance. I have not seen them live yet, but they are currently on tour and I think they would be a fun group to see in action.

This song is such a great combination of drums, guitar and electronics and they fuse pop music and a punk sound seamlessly. It is great dance music and just plain fun. How can you not get up and move to this song? Watch the video and you will see what I mean. 🙂

SONG OF THE DAY – “DAMAGE” by Jimmy Eat World

February 8, 2014

I am posting a song from the new album by Jimmy Eat World today. I have been a fan of their music for many years now and especially love their songs, “Hear You Me” and “The Middle” – a fantastic angsty, motivational song (awesome for a workout, btw).

Jimmy Eat World was started in 1994 in Mesa, Arizona. Having lived in Arizona for several years, it is fun for me to read about a band who grew up there and made it up through the Phoenix-area music scene. They originally started out as a punk rock group, but by 1999 had made a name for themselves in the emo scene with the very successful release of their album, Clarity. It was the release of their album, Jimmy Eat World (originally named Bleed American) in 2001, however, that launched them successfully into the mainstream alternative rock scene. That album has the two songs that I mentioned above as my two favorites, and is really when I personally discovered the band.

This new album is a great addition to their nearly 20-years of music. I still enjoy their sound and I find this song to just blend seamlessly into their library. This song is probably my favorite off the album – it has great lyrics, cool guitar, and a catchy beat.
