Today’s song is one you will have to listen to on YouTube below as it is not yet available here in the US. I love Hudson Taylor, an Irish folk pop duo with brothers Alfie and Harry Hudson-Taylor.

I have posted a song from Hudson Taylor in the past, but wanted to share this new song (and brand new video!) by them today. They will be releasing their debut album, Singing For Strangers, across the world (except the US and Canada) on March 30. I will be keeping my eye out for the US release date and will let you know as soon as I know. In the meantime, this is a great music video and I think you will love the song.

I have linked to their LP, Chasing Rubies, above. The LP was released in late 2013 and if you have not yet listened to their music, please check them out … they truly are awesome! You can also preview their new album by clicking HERE.

Song of the Day – “Believe” by Mumford & Sons

Today I want to post a brand new song … just released today.

I love Mumford & Sons! I first saw them perform live while living in London, England. Their song “Little Lion Man” was brand new and I heard that they were going to be performing at Pure Groove – a small record shoppe in London. My two young children (ages 13 and 10!) came home from school and I told them, “Get ready. We are going to a concert!” They were the only kids there, but what an experience. 🙂

Pure Groove is a tiny little spot and it was probably the second most intimate concert experience I have ever had. We were literally about 15 feet from the band. It was fabulous! We followed Mumford & Sons the entire time we lived in London as they became a real London-based, local favorite. Then we moved back to the US a year later and we got to watch their ascent here as they were really just being introduced in the US. It was such an interesting experience to watch the same band become famous twice.

The band has just finished a new album – Wilder Mind – after a two year break from their last album. “Believe” is the first single released from the album, which is available for preorder now with an expected release date of May 4. I love the new sound of this song and the electronic music they have incorporated; it is very different from their banjo-playing folk style that made them so popular. The first time I listened to the song I was reminded of Coldplay, particularly during the first half of the song.

I am really excited to hear the rest of the new album and the creative effort that they put into it. How do you like it?

14 hours! Actually 14 hours and 5 minutes!

That is how long a direct flight takes from New York to Beijing, China. I know this because I am on that flight right now. For weeks I have been panicking about sitting on a plane for 14 hours. I am not very good at sitting. :/ I bought me some Sleep Well and in an hour or so I plan to attempt sleeping so that I can try to be right ready to jump onto China time. That is probably wishful thinking since they are 13 hours ahead of my time, meaning that I should already be asleep now as it is 3:30 am tomorrow there right now. I know … confusing! I might as well admit to myself now that there is a very good chance I will not be posting on Wednesday. 🙂

I am so excited to visit China. I have never been to China and there are so many things I am looking forward to seeing, but mostly I am excited to see my daughter! ❤ She has now been in China for 10 weeks and still has another 6 1/2 weeks to go. I can’t wait to hear how much her Chinese language skills have improved and it will be so exciting to see China through her eyes, as well as my own. We will be spending a few days in Beijing, which will be new for her, and then I will accompany her back to Shanghai.

I am posting a new song today by Tristan Prettyman. This song is from her new album, Back to Home, which was just released last week on October 27. I have been a fan of Tristan Prettyman’s music for many years. She released her first album back in 2005. I think her music is so pure, raw, honest, and soulful all at the same time. Sometimes it feels light and breezy, reminiscent of her California surfing background, and other times it is just an incredibly deep lyrical song backed by great music. This album has a much different sound than her older music, but I love it! Today’s song is definitely my very favorite from the new album.

I really connected with this song – “Back To Home.” As I am sitting here on a plane off to China it struck me that I am off to find “home.” Home is not necessarily a place; I have learned that over the last 23 years through all of our moves and changes. Home is where I am with the ones I love. Home is where my heart is … and right now my heart is spread far and wide.

I was texting my son right before takeoff and I said, “I am so excited for you to come back home!” He responded, “In like 2 weeks?” I obviously think we disagreed on how close it seemed. 😉 I am just so excited to have him come home and I guess as I am off to visit one piece of my heart, I started anticipating having another piece return back home. I know that home will always be there. Life is a journey and my little family is certainly having a journey, but I find a lot of solace in the line of this song that says,

“All of these roads lead us back to home.”

No YouTube videos for any songs on this new album yet, so I have attached a recording of the song from SoundCloud. I hope you enjoy this new music as much as I have.

Let’s see … just 11 more hours to go! YIKES!

“Show Me Emotion” by The Dunwells

October 1, 2014

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

I am posting a song today by a band that I have posted from before – the English, folk-rock band, The Dunwells. I saw The Dunwells perform live back in 2012 while living in Dallas, and I immediately liked them. They have a great sound, wonderful song-writing, fantastic harmonies, and just a cool vibe.

The band is made up of brothers David and Joseph Dunwell, and cousins Robert Clayton and Johnny Lamb. (The band used to be five members, but guitarist, David Hanson, left the band to start his own band.) They just released their second studio album on September 8, 2014. The new EP is entitled, Show Me Emotion and it does just that. It is a different sound than their first album and I loved their old sound … but, I also really like this new sound too.

The Dunwells just finished touring in the UK in September and are headed to California this month. They are great live performers, particularly in an intimate setting where you can really hear those incredible harmonies. If you get a chance to see them, take it! I am hoping they make it to the east coast and will be keeping my eye out for them.

Sometimes at the end of a long day with a lot of moving pieces I do feel overcome with emotion for some reason. Sometimes I feel incredibly happy and other times I feel on the verge of tears. Today has been one of those days. This song just seemed like a perfect fit, just enough emotion to let me settle into my end of day. I really hope you enjoy this new song.

SONG OF THE DAY – “WILD HEART” by The Vamps

A fun song to start your week off today.

The Vamps are a young group out of the UK, and when I say young … I really mean YOUNG. The band consists of four young guys, the oldest of whom just turned 20, the youngest just recently turned 18.

The Vamps are truly a band out of the modern age as they did not form in the traditional way. Actually, when James McVey (lead guitar and vocals) wanted to form a band, he turned to YouTube in search of other talent. He met Brad Simpson (lead vocals and guitar) via YouTube in 2011 and the two began writing songs together. In 2012, they connected with Connor Ball (bass guitar and vocals) and Tristan Evans (drums and vocals) and the band was officially formed. They started uploading music covers on their YouTube channel and they were an instant hit, ending 2012 with a record deal. They released their debut album, called Meet The Vamps, in the UK in April of this year. They are very talented young men and co-write and perform all their own songs. This song just makes me happy and brings a little much-needed energy into a Monday.

SONG OF THE DAY – “PLEASE DON’T SAY YOU LOVE ME” by Gabrielle Aplin

May 7, 2014

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

The last few days I have been able to get outside for a run in close to 60 degree weather. What a joy! I love the sunshine, being in my running shorts, and having to stop halfway thru the run to remove my long sleeve top and tie it around my waist. That is just pure pleasure. 🙂

Another pleasure is listening to today’s artist. I am posting a song by a young artist (21 years old!) from the UK that I have been a fan of for several years. I have followed Gabrielle Aplin‘s music since 2011 and have often had to purchase it from the UK iTunes site since the songs were not available here in the US. I am, therefore, very excited to announce that her album, English Rain, (which was released in the UK this month last year) was finally released here in the US yesterday (May 6, 2014). In addition to the album release yesterday, she also performed live in concert in NYC last night. I am excited to see her extend her reach into the States and I thought it was a perfect day to post another song by her. I posted my favorite song by her – “Home” – on this page back in December.

I find Gabrielle Aplin‘s music just very honest and easy to listen to. I really like this song and I love the video I have attached where you can watch her perform in her element, standing by herself playing the guitar (or the piano) and singing. She received her first guitar from her parents at age 11 and says that she was influenced musically by listening to her parents’ Joni Mitchell and Bruce Springsteen albums. She is an incredibly talented young lady! Her full EP is definitely worth checking out and I am certain we will hear more from this rising young star.

As you know, another favorite musical group of mine from that side of the pond (Ireland) is Hudson Taylor. The brothers, Alfie and Harry, and Gabrielle are great mates who have known each other for over four years when they all moved to London. In fact, I have discovered that Alfie and Gabrielle are dating… so cute! It is fun to watch these young artists develop friendships with each other and support each other in their respective journeys. Let me know what you think about today’s song – I would love to hear from you.

SONG OF THE DAY – “A SKY FULL OF STARS” by Coldplay

Just a quick song today by a favorite band. This is a new single off Coldplay’s upcoming new album, Ghost Stories, being released on May 19. This is a great song with a hint of the original sound of Coldplay that I have always loved. I hope you enjoy it. I am really looking forward to the album release.

Not much time to write tonight, so you get to enjoy just the song today and not a lot of chatter from me. 😉

SONG OF THE DAY – “THE HEART” by NEEDTOBREATHE

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

Happy Easter!

I hope that you are all enjoying this beautiful day. I love holidays and spending time together with family. I have so many memories of Easter with my family – both as a child and as a mom with my children. I am missing not having both my kids home today, and I am also feeling a little sad not to be “home” with my extended family for the Easter festivities.

It is a bummer to have outgrown so many of the traditional Easter activities with my kids. The Easter egg hunt is just not as fun for one kid without his sister companion to compete against. Last year we did the Easter egg hunt via Skype as my son carried his sister around on the iPad so that she could help him hunt for the eggs. We just got home yesterday evening and my daughter is working the pasta dinner for the Boston Marathon today so, needless to say, there was no egg hunt this year. 😦

There have been so many new albums released over the last few weeks and it has been exciting to listen to and explore all the new music. Today’s song is off the new NEEDTOBREATHE album, Rivers in the Wasteland, which was just released on April 15. I am a huge fan of NEEDTOBREATHE, introduced to them shortly after I moved to Dallas. I have seen them in concert live two times – once during The Outsiders tour and once on The Reckoning tour. They have an incredible presence on stage and truly know how to connect with the audience. I would have to say that The Reckoning concert was one of the best “rock” concerts I have ever seen. They were incredible! I am looking forward to seeing them again very soon at one of their upcoming tour dates.

NEEDTOBREATHE was formed in 1999 by two brothers from Possum Kingdom, South Caraolina – Bear and Bo (Bryant) Rinehart (named after famous University of Alabama football coach, Bear Bryant) – along with two childhood friends, Joe Stillwell (drummer) and Seth Bolt (bassist). They are a Christian rock band and have a huge fan base among Christian music fans, but they have certainly crossed over the lines to attract a larger mainstream audience as well. They have been classified as Southern Rock and their music absolutely has a classic southern feel, but the music they play crosses many genres. They have a remarkably raw sound and so many great songs that it would be difficult for me to direct you to just a few. This new album is fantastic and was certainly worth the three year wait! I hope you enjoy this song and I recommend that you check out the rest of their music library.

SONG OF THE DAY – “ONE NIGHT TOWN” by Ingrid Michaelson & Mat Kearney

I am so excited for this new song! I love it!

I have been waiting for Ingrid Michaelson’s album to officially be released so that I could share this song with you. It was released at midnight … so here it is! As those of you who have been following my blog know, Mat Kearney is my absolute favorite! I have seen him live on four different occasions and would be willing to see him a hundred more times. He and Ingrid Michaelson co-wrote this song and it was just released on her new album, Lights Out, her fifth studio album. I have not yet seen Ingrid Michaelson live, but I am very fond of both her and her music, and I am definitely planning to see her on the upcoming tour. The two artists have toured together in the past and they make beautiful music together; I love how their voices mix. This is a great song by two amazing artists – enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY – “I’M ON YOUR SIDE” by Matt Hires

April 9, 2014

Download_on_iTunes_Badge_US-UK_110x40_1004

I am posting a song today by an artist that I am very fond of. Matt Hires is a singer-songwriter from Florida who began writing music in his late teens and released his first album at age 22. Now, at the ripe old age of 28, he is still creating great music with a sound all his own, and he released a new independent album just yesterday.

I find his music enjoyable to listen to and very soothing. He has such an authentic voice and the lyrics to his songs are incredibly sincere and honest, something that I just find refreshing.

I am a big fan of his first two full length albums (Take Us to the Start 2008 and This World Won’t Last Forever, But Tonight We Can Pretend 2013), so I was very excited when he announced that he was working on new songs and a new album. His new four-track album, Heartache Machine, was just released yesterday and earlier today it had already reached #16 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart. He is currently on tour and will be here in NYC later this month. Hooray! He is also joining another favorite of mine – Parachuteon tour this summer. I will definitely be watching for those dates!

I love the new album and hope that you will enjoy it too. If you find that you like it, please share it with someone else. I get a kick out of introducing great music to those who might not have otherwise heard it, and I love spreading the news about awesome music and talented artists. Matt Hires, and this new album, is definitely one that should be shared.

Check out my absolute favorite song by Matt Hires – “Honey, Let Me Sing You A Song.” In fact, maybe it should be the Throw Back Thursday song tomorrow. 😉
