I wanted to share this very cool cover by some incredible young artists and sisters – Lennon & Maisy. This song is originally by Coldplay and I always loved the song, but I have to admit that I am obsessed with this version. It is amazing!

Lennon & Maisy are sisters – ages 18 and 14, respectively. The duo were born in Ontario, Canada and come from a very musical family. The sisters are singers and songwriters and have been singing and playing numerous instruments all their lives. Music was their early passion and it seems that they were just born with this talent, having never taken any professional music lessons.

The pair seem to have such a sweet sister relationship and are absolutely adorable, plus they have the most incredible two-part harmony I have ever heard! I just love to watch them perform together. ❤

I have never watched the TV show, Nashville, but if you have you may recognize them.; they began appearing on the show in 2012. In addition to this song, you should definitely check out their cover of “Boom Clap” by Charli XCX.

SONG OF THE DAY – “DAMN, DO I THINK ABOUT YOU” by Steve Moakler

So, I have essentially been off-line for an entire week! I think that is the longest I have ever disappeared. I have to admit that it is a little difficult to get back in the groove of writing this blog and posting after that length of a break, but I think about it all the time and wanted to get a song out there today … so here I am online tonight.

I love this song that I am posting today by singer-songwriter, Steve Moakler. He has a way of catching real emotion in his lyrics and his melodies, and I love the honesty he captures in this song.  His music will just stick in your head long after listening to it. Steve Moakler has been writing songs since he was 14 years old. He is originally from Pittsburgh, but relocated to Nashville in 2006 to pursue his music career and hone his songwriting craft in one of the most musically talented cities in the country. His music has a hint of country to it, but is also mixed with an Indie sound. I find it very inviting.

This song is from his new album, Wide Open, which was just released in March of this year. It goes to figure that I would like Steve Moakler as he is friends and past touring companions (Three Amigos Tour) with Ben Rector (and Andrew Ripp), a huge favorite of mine. I hope you enjoy this song. I am posting the lyrics today just because they can get stuck in your head and it is nice to know the exact words. 😉

DAMN, DO I THINK ABOUT YOU

written by steve moakler and chad cates

I DON’T CARE ABOUT POLITICS

I DON’T CARE WHAT CAR I DRIVE

WHEN I WALK BY THOSE FANCY STORES

I DON’T WONDER WHAT’S INSIDE

I DON’T CARE MUCH ABOUT MONEY

OR IF I’LL BE A MILLIONAIRE

WHEN I’M TALKING TO JESUS

I DON’T WONDER IF HE’S THERE

I DON’T CARE MUCH IF I WIN OR LOSE

I DON’T WORRY WHERE I’M HEADED TO

BUT DAMN, DO I THINK ABOUT YOU

I DON’T GIVE MUCH THOUGHT TO

WHERE I LAY MY HEAD AT NIGHT

I’M JUST DRIVING DOWN THIS HIGHWAY

TRYING TO SHINE A LITTLE LIGHT

THE WAY YOU SHINE A LITTLE LIGHT

SONG OF THE DAY – “NEED THE SUN TO BREAK” by James Bay

On the surface, I am guessing that you think I am posting this song today because of the weather … and I guess you could be right. The Super Bowl totally lucked out with the weather yesterday because late last night/early this morning it started to snow heavily and it is still coming down. All the schools around us (including our own) are canceled and we probably have at least 6 inches outside already and it is still snowing. I guess the groundhog didn’t lie!

However, I did not choose this song because of the weather, as fitting as it may be. 🙂 I wanted to share this song because I love the lyrics and I love the way James Bay sings them. He has one of those great raw, rugged voices that just draws you into his music, and that acoustic guitar … I love it! I guess figuratively I can also relate to needing to have the sun break.

James Bay is an incredibly talented singer-songwriter. He is in his early twenties and is another young, emerging artist from the UK. There are so many talented musicians who come from the UK! I have to admit that my fervor for music exploded during my time living in London; there is just something remarkable about the amount of talent and the passion for music that exists there.

Bay comes from a small town called Hitchin in Hertfordshire, England. He has gained a strong fan base and a great reputation from his many live performances.  He released his debut album last summer and, unfortunately for me because I missed it, just did some touring across the US – recently finishing up in Nashville. I will definitely be watching for his return … or maybe I need to make a visit to London instead. 🙂 He does promise not to be gone long.

In reading about James Bay, I found out that his musical heroes include Carole King, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jackson Browne, and James Taylor. I would have to say that his music is a great combination of all these artists, along with his own unique twist. No wonder I like him so much, as I love the music of his musical heroes as well. Enjoy James Bay on this #MusicMonday.
