I had a wonderful weekend with 3/4 of the family home. We missed my son who stayed at school for the holiday weekend, but I am sure he was happy to stay in warmer weather.
It was miserably cold outside this weekend! In fact, Monday morning registered at -17 degrees with the windchill. That is nasty! I don’t know how you feel about those kind of temperatures, but I have absolutely NO desire to step outside when it is that cold.
So, I got lots of indoor gym time this weekend and I am posting one of my current favorite workout tunes for you to enjoy today. It motivated me many times this weekend!
This song is by Cash Cash, an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) group from New Jersey. Their music has also been labeled as pop or house dance music. I label it as great “move me” music! 🙂 The group consists of two brothers – Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf, and Samuel Warren Frish. The three men write, produce, and mix all of their music together. Bebe Rexha, who performs vocals for this song, is a young singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. This song is the group’s highest charting song thus far.
A quick song at the end of a very, very long day. I am exhausted, but refuse to skip Day 2 of my new posting run. 🙂
This song is by the German duo, Milky Chance, and is off their debut album, Sadnecessary. The duo is made up of singer/songwriter Clemens Rehbein and DJ Philipp Daush who met in an “Advanced Music Course” in the eleventh grade. You may already be familiar with them and this song, but my son and I kept listening to it while driving to and from the airport for a golf tournament a few weeks ago and I just have wanted to share it ever since.
Okay, it is only 9pm, but I am physically and mentally exhausted … I am off to bed. No stolen dance for me tonight. 😉
It has been a crazy, busy week with so much happening, and so many life changing events occurring, that it has not even really hit me yet. I have so many things that I want to write about that I don’t even know where to begin. I think I will just start with Shanghai … and my Miss Shanghai.
My daughter arrived in Shanghai, China last week and, after a few days of orientation to her study abroad program, she started school on Monday. I hate giving up the tradition of “The First Day of School” photos and, even though she is starting her Junior year in college, I always ask her to send me one. She is always so willing to send me a photo and it makes me smile that she will appease her sentimental mom.
These are her first day of school photos – one alone and one with her roommate. Her study abroad program is located at The Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (上海财经大学) and these photos are just right outside of the campus.
My daughter is truly an amazingly adventurous and brave person. Other than Singapore, our family has not ventured much into Asia yet, so she is forging the culture shock on her own. I think food has been the most challenging experience for her thus far. She has let me know that American Chinese food is NOTHING like the Chinese food that is actually in China. So, if you think you like Chinese food … don’t be fooled. 🙂 She is trying lots of new things, but trying to find familiar food as well.
She said that flying into the city of Shanghai felt like it could be any large, modern world city. She, however, lives outside of the city and she has found it to be very different. She told me that I need to watch [the new] “Karate Kid” movie again because that reminds her of where she is living. I plan to re-watch the movie as soon as I get home.
I don’t think it has really sunk in for any of us that she is going to be in China for 4 more months. We were just talking about Thanksgiving plans and realized that she would not be home. So strange!
Another snowy day here in the east coast! I am driving my daughter’s Mini Cooper and I can’t say that it is the best vehicle for slippery, windy, hilly roads.
Snow is beautiful, but I am feeling like I need a little balance between winter and sunshine! I am looking forward to getting to spend some time in sunny, warm Arizona with my son later this week. He can get his fill of golf rounds and I can get my fill of sunshine, hiking, and time with old friends. Returning to places I have lived before is always a wonderful experience. I have so many good friends from my time in Arizona and I can hardly wait to get to spend some time with them. It may be hard to leave again.
The song of the day today is a very catchy tune and I love the sound that Future Islands creates. I think you will enjoy listening to this synthpop sound today – I know that I am enjoying listening to it. The video also seems to catch where I am today … they are seeking the beach and I am seeking the sunshine. 🙂
Future Islands is a synthpop group currently based out of Baltimore, Maryland. The band started in 2006 while they were attending East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. They have a very unique sound that makes for very easy listening. Future Islands have announced that they will be releasing a new album in March of this year, but this song is from their last album “On The Water,” which was released in late 2011.
It’s Throwback Thursday! Today’s TBT song was originally posted as my daughter’s Song of the Day on January 23, 2010!
Today I am really using TBT. Yes, I originally posted this song on my daughter’s page in 2010, but this song is from 1979! I grew up on New Wave music and it is fun to post an old song from my early teenage days.
This song just came up in our house a few weeks ago when we were playing the game, Wits and Wagers. One of the questions was “In what year was the first MTV video aired on TV?” The answer also provided a little trivia by giving the name of the video. So, for those of you that are interested … “Video Killed the Radio Star” was the first video to be shown on MTV in the US at 12:01 am on August 1, 1981!
The Buggles are best known for this song which was debuted in 1979 and was Number One on the singes charts of sixteen countries! The Buggles were only together from 1977-1981, but they certainly produced a timeless classic during that short time. Enjoy a little 80s today! 🙂
