I had a wonderful weekend with 3/4 of the family home. We missed my son who stayed at school for the holiday weekend, but I am sure he was happy to stay in warmer weather.

It was miserably cold outside this weekend! In fact, Monday morning registered at -17 degrees with the windchill. That is nasty! I don’t know how you feel about those kind of temperatures, but I have absolutely NO desire to step outside when it is that cold.

So, I got lots of indoor gym time this weekend and I am posting one of my current favorite workout tunes for you to enjoy today. It motivated me many times this weekend!

This song is by Cash Cash, an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) group from New Jersey. Their music has also been labeled as pop or house dance music. I label it as great “move me” music! 🙂 The group consists of two brothers – Jean Paul and Alex Makhlouf, and Samuel Warren Frish. The three men write, produce, and mix all of their music together. Bebe Rexha, who performs vocals for this song, is a young singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. This song is the group’s highest charting song thus far.

SONG OF THE DAY – “LOVE IN THE 21st CENTURY” by Neon Trees

On Tuesday night, I was lucky enough to see Neon Trees live in concert in a very intimate setting at the iHeart Theatre in New York City. I won two tickets from iHeart Radio for the show and it was fabulous! I invited a friend of mine, who recently moved to the city, to join me and we had an incredible time. Neon Trees put on a fantastic live show and had the audience singing and dancing right from the minute they stepped on stage.

I have always enjoyed the music of Neon Trees, but they have never been a favorite; however, I absolutely love this new album and I feel like a converted fan. I can honestly say that I like every single song on their new album – Pop Psychology. The album was released on the same day as the concert – April 22 – and I would highly recommend it. I have not been able to stop listening to the album all week and really struggled with which one song to post today.

The music on this new album has a very different feel and sound from their previous albums and I love the variety. There is great dance music, catchy pop verses, an 80s-style New Wave sound, a slower dramatic tune, some amazing guitar solos and incredible drumming, and even more appealing were the very personal, introspective lyrics. There were so many times that night that I truly felt like I was back in the 80s in high school, even Tyler Glenn’s dancing reminded me of the 80s. 🙂

Neon Trees are from Provo, Utah – not far from where I grew up in Salt Lake City. The band includes singer Tyler Glenn, drummer Elaine Brady, guitarist Chris Allen, and bassist Branden Campbell. I have really become a fan of both the band and the band members, they honestly seem like really good people with incredible talent. So, listen to this song and then check out the new album. Another favorite that you should definitely check out is “First Things First” which was almost the song I posted today.

(Left) Blue fans at the show! 😉                      (Right) Amazingly, my friend ran into Elaine Brady on an airplane the day after the concert. Elaine was on the way home and my friend was on the way to see her daughter graduate from BYU in Provo, Utah.

SONG OF THE DAY – “FREE” by Rudimental, featuring Emeli Sande

Just a quick note today with a song that I absolutely love and a video that I think is awesome.

I think Emeli Sande has such an incredible voice and it melds perfectly with the sounds of Rudimental, an English electronic, drum ‘n’ bass group. The song and the album Home was released almost a year ago in April 2013 to great reviews. In fact, the producer-musician quartet just won a 2014 BRIT Award for Best British Single for the song, “Waiting All Night.”

I find this song empowering. It makes me want to run outside. I love the combination of the music and the lyrics – it just totally catches me in the emotion of that moment of feeling “free.” They did an incredible job on the video as I think it is one of the best I have seen in terms of catching that same feeling that you hear while listening to the song. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

“Whoa, c’est la vie. Maybe something’s wrong with me. But, whoa, at least I am free. Oh I am free!”
