It’s Throwback Thursday! Today’s #tbt song is from the 1993 album Sister Sweetly by Big Head Todd and the Monsters.

I love this song! It is so incredibly soulful.

I was first introduced to this song at a yoga class taught by Alex Austin at At One Yoga while I was living in Arizona. What an amazing song for yoga and Alex was an amazing yoga instructor. (I still miss his classes)

The reason I decided on this song today is that I was just able to see Big Head Todd and the Monsters perform a few weeks ago at the Greenwich Wine+Food Festival and I was totally excited to hear this song live. (In fact, I think I cracked Todd up because I was right at the edge of the stage singing my heart out! lol)

IMG_0776Big Head Todd and the Monsters – happy they played my song! 🙂

The song was as great as I remembered and I have now, once again, been listening to it all the time. Don’t you find that you sometimes need a song reminder? My iTunes library has over 2500 songs and then you add my Spotify library to that list … I could listen to music every single day and never hit the same song twice. I was thrilled to get this reminder.

I hope you enjoy this easygoing, soulful song by a band that has been performing for over 30 years together.  In case you wondered, Big Head Todd and the Monsters can still rock! 🙂

SONG OF THE DAY – “LIVE WHILE WE’RE YOUNG” by JOHNNYSWIM

Today’s song is in celebration of my friend’s birthday. It is fitting that I am posting a song for her here as she is the one who, along with my daughter, convinced me to start this blog and is probably my biggest promoter and fan.

This is such a great song and I love the title. My friend lives her life wide open and full of joy. She is definitely living while she is young … and she will always be young. She knows the meaning of living life to the fullest and enjoying each moment. She is quick to laugh, always up for an adventure, full of energy, and is constantly serving others. I know that I am not the only friend of her’s who has benefited from the spark for life that she shares with everyone she meets. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, my dear friend! I miss you and know that you are out living while you are young today, even though you are one day older. 🙂

“Live While We’re Young” is from JOHNNYSWIM, the husband-wife duo of Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano. JOHNNYSWIM is one of my favorite newer musical groups and I previously shared a song by them on this website back in December (I give a little more history about them in that post). Their full length debut album, Diamonds, was just released today! I have been anxiously awaiting its release, so I wanted to share another song by them from the new album today. They are incredible and just have a remarkable sound.

I truly love this new song and there are so many on the album that are worth a listen. I am very impressed with this album – the song lyrics are fantastic, the sound of their two voices together is incredible, the music is raw and infectious, and their chemistry is just something that is not seen very often. Enjoy this new song and the new album today!

There is not currently a YouTube video out for this song, but click here to listen to the song. I will update the page as soon as a video is avaiable. In the meantime, the Album Trailer video below will give you a taste, and if you click here NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert will give you a fantastic view of this remarkable husband-wife duo.

SONG OF THE DAY – “I’M SHAKIN” by Jack White

Last night we stayed up to watch the Grammy Nomination show. I always try to guess who I think is going to be nominated for certain categories and then I am always excited to explore some of the new music that I discover during the nominations.

I wanted to share one of the songs that has been nominated as best music video. Although I knew the song before, I had never watched the video and it is really cool. Also, it is a totally unique song which I just find sweet. Reminds me of a lot of different genres combined together and makes for some great dancing. A little soul, a little blues, a little rock, just a great combo.

If you are not familiar with Jack White as a solo artist, you may be familiar with the large number of groups in which he has been involved. He formed (along with his first wife) the group The White Stripes, then became a founding member of the rock group The Raconteurs, and then became a founding member of the group The Dead Weather. Along the way, he also collaborated with a host of other great musicians, produced some albums, and did a little acting. He is on Rolling Stone’s list of “100 Greatest Guitarists,” he sings, and he is a drummer. Needless to say, it would be hard to say that he is wasting time … or his talents.

Make sure to watch the video for this one – great dancing, a little Robert Palmer feel, and just plain cool (can’t even think of a better word). Would love to hear what you think about this one.
