Today I am sharing a song that really touched my heart. In fact, it brings me to tears every time I listen to it. I can’t believe that I am just now hearing it a year after it’s release, but the story behind it is amazing. This song was written by a young musician who had cancer and knew that it was terminal. He used music as a way to say goodbye to those he loved.
Zach was diagnosed with bone cancer at the age of 14 and, by the time he was 18, he had endured many surgeries and nearly two dozen rounds of chemotherapy before it was determined that his cancer was terminal. He released this song as a YouTube video last December and it became a viral sensation! He passed away at the age of 18 this past May and, after his death, the song was pushed to the top of iTunes and the Billboard charts. Both those who knew Zach and those who only knew of Zach, marveled at the remarkable and positive way he approached every day of his life with hope and a smile. It is an amazing lesson in putting things in perspective.
I have attached his video of the song, as well as a video that was just released this month of a choir of 5000 singing his song in his memory at the Mall of America. Pretty remarkable and tear-jerking.
