Happy Monday! I think spring might actually be trying to come rescue all of us winter weary folks. I am not a huge fan of daylight savings, but I must admit that having daylight all the way until 7pm here on the east coast is pretty fabulous. The extra daylight and warmer temperatures change a town – people are out and about, runners and walkers flock outside, and definitely more smiley and cheerful people abound. Amazing what a little taste of spring can do for the soul!
Today’s song is by Fitz and The Tantrums, a very cool band with an amazingly unique sound. Their music has a very retro sound and vibe that I just love. The band was founded in 2008 by Michael Fitzpatrick (songwriter, lead singer, and keyboardist) after he bought an organ and wrote a song the same night. He reached out to a college friend, who is a saxophonist, to add some horns to the song. From there, recommendations for other band members were given and the group quickly grew to six, including: Kirpatrick, James King (the college friend and saxophonist), Noelle Scaggs, John Wicks, Joseph Karnes, and Jeremy Ruzumna. It seems they were an instant fit and all got along right from the start.
Fast forward to today and the band has two albums under their belts, have toured extensively and played many festivals, and have gained a tremendous amount of popularity. They are currently on tour and have many upcoming music festivals, including the Governor’s Ball here in NYC and Bonnaroo, both in June. I think you will enjoy this very cool song and may even find yourself dancing and singing along!
