I just got home from visiting my son in South Carolina for a few days for his 16th birthday. It was awesome to get to spend time with him! I have been trying to decide if I came home less worried or more worried about him. Haha!

It is such a strange feeling to go visit your teenage boy in his “apartment” and say “yep, that is how I would keep my space.” Yikes! Teenage boys are messy. He keeps reminding me that his apartment was one of only two that passed house inspections … so I should be pleased. Hmm …

Anyway, he is doing incredibly well at his new school and loves it. He is happy, settled, social, and motivated! As much as I miss him, this makes me very happy. I am very proud of him, even if I do worry about him and miss him every day.

The alligators down there also worry me! ūüôā

I have been wanting to post this cool new song and I thought the title was just perfect today. Jack Garratt is a young artist from London, England who just released his first EP, Remnants, a few months ago. His music is very unique and is difficult to box into a genre. He has an incredible amount of soul and emotion in his music. It is an interesting song to add to my playlist, but I think Jack Garratt is extremely talented and creates incredibly interesting music. Listen to the unique beat, rhythm, and lyrics that he uses in his music. I hope that you enjoy this new song by a young, rising artist. I am sure we will hear much more from him in the future.

It’s Throwback Thursday! Today’s #tbt song is from 2011.

Just returning from an extended trip traveling with my son in the south Рa golf tournament and a visit to a couple of schools. We visited several places that I have never been before and have always wanted to visit, including Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head, South Carolina. Beautiful! Wish there had been more time to just vacation. We had such a great time, but we are both exhausted.
.
I am posting a song today for Throwback Thursday that is not super old Рit is from the 2011 album, The Papercut Chronicles II, by Gym Class Heroes Рbut it is a song that I have had in my head a lot the last few days and one that I have always loved. This is a fabulous motivational song; we listened to it today as we headed off to another golf tournament. I hope that it does the trick for you if you need a little motivation to encourage yourself, or someone you know, to reach higher and realize they are a fighter.
.
I am sure that I have mentioned it before, but I am a huge Ryan Tedder fan. He is quite literally one of my very favorites. His collaboration on this song just makes the whole thing perfect. Enjoy!

SONG OF THE DAY – “THE HEART” by NEEDTOBREATHE

Happy Easter!

I hope that you are all enjoying this beautiful day. I love holidays and spending time together with family. I have so many memories of Easter with my family – both as a child and as a mom with my children. I am missing not having both my kids home today, and I am also feeling a little sad not to be “home” with my¬†extended family for the Easter festivities.

It is a bummer¬†to have outgrown so many of the traditional Easter activities with my kids. The Easter egg hunt is just not as fun for one kid without his sister companion to compete against. Last year we did the Easter egg hunt via Skype as my son carried his sister¬†around on the iPad so that she could help him hunt for the eggs. We just got home yesterday evening and my daughter is working the pasta dinner for the Boston Marathon today so, needless to say, there was no egg hunt this year. ūüė¶

There have been so many new albums released over the last few weeks and it has been exciting to listen to and explore all the new music. Today’s song is off the new NEEDTOBREATHE album, Rivers in the Wasteland, which was just released on April 15. I am a huge fan of NEEDTOBREATHE, introduced to them shortly after I moved to Dallas. I have seen them in concert live two times – once during The¬†Outsiders tour and once on The Reckoning tour. They have an incredible presence on stage and truly know how to connect with the audience. I would have to say that The Reckoning concert was one of the best “rock” concerts I have ever seen. They were incredible! I am looking forward to seeing them again very soon at one of their upcoming tour dates.

NEEDTOBREATHE was formed in 1999 by two brothers from Possum Kingdom, South Caraolina РBear and Bo (Bryant) Rinehart (named after famous University of Alabama football coach, Bear Bryant) Рalong with two childhood friends, Joe Stillwell (drummer) and Seth Bolt (bassist). They are a Christian rock band and have a huge fan base among Christian music fans, but they have certainly crossed over the lines to attract a larger mainstream audience as well. They have been classified as Southern Rock and their music absolutely has a classic southern feel, but the music they play crosses many genres. They have a remarkably raw sound and so many great songs that it would be difficult for me to direct you to just a few. This new album is fantastic and was certainly worth the three year wait! I hope you enjoy this song and I recommend that you check out the rest of their music library.
